When the time comes to list your house for sale in St. Albert, it is important that your home looks its very best. After all, first impressions are everything in the real estate industry. Because of this, many sellers choose to stage their homes as a way to make their space look more appealing to buyers. When done correctly, staging can seriously improve your listing’s success! But, when done poorly, it can have the opposite effect. If you are planning on staging your home, I’ve compiled a list of staging dos and don’ts to help you avoid any mistakes. Follow along below to learn more!

Tips for Staging Your House for Sale in St. Albert!

  1. Depersonalize your space

The first thing that you should do when staging your home is to depersonalize and declutter. Getting rid of overly personal items like family photos, awards, and other knick-knacks is essential. This is because buyers will have a harder time envisioning themselves in your space when these items are visible at every turn.

  1. Get rid of odours

When buyers enter your home for the first time, they won’t just be paying attention to how it looks—they will also be hyper-aware of how it smells. While you may not think your home smells, others may be able to detect unfavourable scents that you’ve gone nose blind to. In order to ensure your home is odour free, do a deep clean. This means cleaning litter boxes, emptying garbages/composts, removing mould, and paying extra attention in the bathrooms. Before a showing, it is better to add natural scents like baked goods or fresh flowers than artificial scents like room sprays.

  1. Brighten your space

Another thing to consider when staging is how bright your space appears. You may want to repaint the walls white or another light colour if your space is dark. Cleaning your windows is also a good way to brighten up your space.

  1. Don’t forget about curb appeal

Last month, I wrote all about curb appeal. But, it is worth mentioning again how important it is to remember the exterior of your home when staging. This is especially true for those with big yards. You can learn more about how to add curb appeal to your home here
